The Mensa Education & Research Foundation and Mensa members are proud of their history of providing scholarships to selected essay winners.
In 2006, the Mensa Foundation awarded 140 scholarships totaling $58,600. Eighty Local Groups finished the scholarship program, and each of their local winners will receive a Karen Cooper or Diana Mossip Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $300.
The average age of this year's winner is 22; ages ranged from 16 to 52 at the time of application. Seventy-three winners are graduating from high school this year, one is home schooled and the remainder are already in college. Winners are working on various degrees from associate to doctorate.
Winners come from 35 states, ranging from Maine to Florida and from Hawaii to New York. California was the big winner with 16 awards. All 10 Mensa regions participated with Region 3 getting 19 awards, the largest number. For having the highest percentage of groups participating, Region 3 received an additional $500 regional award.
