The Mensa Education & Research Foundation and Mensa members are proud of their history of providing scholarships to selected essay winners.
In 2004, the Mensa Foundation awarded 133 scholarships totaling $54,400. Seventy-nine Local Groups finished the scholarship program, and each of their local winners will receive a Karen Cooper or Diana Mossip Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $300.
The average age of this year's winner is 22.7. Ages of winners ranged from 16 to 75 at the time of application. Fifty-seven winners are graduating from high school this year with the remainder already in college. Winners are working on various degree levels as follows: 7 associate, 93 baccalaureate, 19 masters, and 13 doctorate.
Winners come from 35 states ranging from Massachusetts to California and from Alaska to Florida. California was the big winner with 17 awards; Florida had 12; Ohio and Pennsylvania tying at 8. All 10 regions participated with Regions 3 getting 18 awards, the largest number. Having the highest percentage of groups participating, Region 9 received an additional $500 regional award.
