ARLINGTON, TEXAS (July 15, 2016) — The Mensa Education and Research Foundation supports and celebrates the work of intelligent people through its scholarships, awards program and gifted youth outreach. The Foundation has announced changes in its board leadership with the election of Marie Mayer as its new Board President. Dave Remine ended his term as President on July 1.
Mayer joined American Mensa in 1978 and has volunteered her time and energy to both Mensa and the Mensa Foundation in a variety of positions. Professionally, she retired from the communications field and is currently the co-owner of Brandt/Mayer Rentals in Clear Lake, Iowa. She credits her longtime affiliation with and passion for Mensa to the support and acceptance she has received from fellow members. “Mensa made an immediate difference in my life. I found a place in Mensa that was comfortable, being accepted for who I was — quirks and all,” said Mayer.
“I am very honored to serve as the President of the Mensa Foundation,” Mayer said about her new role. “Looking to the future, I know we will keep evolving in our quest to help and encourage people to use their intelligence for the benefit of humanity. I have benefited in so many ways as a Mensa member for 38 years, and I am thrilled to be able to give back in a way that’s very meaningful to me. I like making a difference."
Outgoing President Dave Remine took office in November 2011. He has been an active member of American Mensa for 46 years and has been a Foundation Trustee since 1999. He is the only Mensa member to have held the three highest leadership positions within Mensa: Mensa International Chair (1999-2003), American Mensa Chair (1995-99) and Foundation President.
"This is a bittersweet announcement as we are so pleased to have Marie as our new president while we are equally sad to see Dave exit the position," said Jill Beckham, Foundation Director "Dave has been a wonderful president and we are so grateful to him for his years of service as well as for his ongoing support."
