2004 Copper Black awarded to Dr. Kathleen Campbell

Kathleen C.M. Campbell, Ph.D., has been named the 2004 recipient of the prestigious Copper Black Award. This award is presented annually by the Mensa Education & Research Foundation to a member of Mensa who has demonstrated artistic creativity. The ceative achievement may be an invention, innovation or unique improvement that has actually worked.

Dr. Campbell has been honored with the Copper Black Award for Creativity because of her work on protective agents to mitigate hearing loss.

In making the presentation, Greg Timmers, foundation president, said, “Dr. Kathleen Campbell is a perfect example of the Mensa member we are seeking to honor when we established the Copper Black Award for Creativity. Her work in audiology stands as a solid example of a contribution being made to the betterment of mankind.”

Dr. Campbell received her B.A. degree in communication/education from South Dakota State University; she received an M.A. degree in audiology from the University of South Dakota; and, she received her Ph.D. degree in audiology/hearing science from the University of Iowa.

She is a professor and director of audiology research, Division of Otolaryngology, Department of Surgery, at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She is a member of several professional associations. She has received numerous honors and awards. She is also the 2004 recipient of the American Academy of Audiology Scholar Award.

The Copper Black Award for Creative Achievement is made possible by a bequest from Ms. Copper Black, who was a member of American Mensa, Ltd.
